Tiny Vineyard

When we landscaped around the new Wine Barn last summer we decided to plant a few grapes. We love the way they look and it seemed appropriate for our situation. Cloud Mountain farms had several varietals available and we selected one based strictly on the hardiness factor. In the fall it seemed unlikely that the small twigs we were planting would even survive the winter, but I’m happy to say we were wrong. They are getting beautiful! Poles are in, wire is strung, and a fragrant rose bush is planted at the beginning of the row. Lovely!

**[Roses and grapevines are susceptible to the same diseases, so historically, roses were planted in vineyards as an early warning of mildew that could potentially hurt the vines. Today, roses have merely an aesthetic function, and this pretty bush was an end-of-year gift from one of my students.]
