Random End-Of-May Musings

As the month of May wrapped up we were able to share a thiefing of the 2011 Cab Sauv with Linda and Mike for the first time. They own a carboy-share of that wine so we were happy that they approve of how it’s coming along!

We also spent some time working in the herb garden just outside the winery door. It is fragrant with the beautiful herbs that will enhance our meals this summer. Our one, lone, Chardonnay grapevine is also growing and budding out. This year we think we might actually see some grapes on the vine!

Finally, we are thrilled that Kiona Vineyards has agreed to a contract for 1/2 ton of their Red Mountain grapes (Cab Sauv and Cab Franc) for the upcoming fall harvest. Now if we can firm up the Pinot Gris grapes with Airfield Estates we’ll be set for Crush, 2012.

Larry Stephan Memorial Scholarship

Brad’s father, Larry Stephan was an educator his entire career and the Principal of Bellingham High School for nearly 20 years. His name is synonymous with fairness, hard work, and dedication. This town is literally filled with people who reminisce about the what-ifs of their high school years by saying, “if it weren’t for Larry Stephan…”

He made a difference.

Last night the Dollars For Scholars fundraising team at BHS added a new scholarship in Larry’s name. His 3 boys were there to bring the plaque home to their Mom with the first scholarship recipient’s name on it.

I’m happy to say that two of the wines we’ve made did well in silent auction and contributed to the cause.
